Our Purpose

We believe communities and organisations are like living organisms, they need life-giving elements to develop, prosper and evolve. We know that a strategy, a vision, and a determination to survive is often not enough. It’s the why, what and how we choose to act, that is critical to what the future will look like. By activating each crucial element and resource to flow directly to the source of the problem we can enable inclusive growth and secure a sustainable environment, where people prosper, and communities thrive.

Local Regeneration offers expertise in the development and delivery of social & economic inclusion strategies. Specialising in the engagement and development of regional partnerships, with experience in the delivery and the management of strategic plans and projects. Helen is a trained educator on economic groups focussing on the effects of poverty and co-creator and facilitator of the ‘Sustainable Thinking’ program. We know effective change comes from successful engagement.

We connect communities and organisations by tapping into local knowledge and existing expertise, identifying underutilised resources that have the capacity to produce the solutions. Whether it’s shaping your vision or developing a strategy, to navigating and facilitating your project, Local Regeneration has the skills and experience to engage your stakeholders to participate in co-creating a solution, lead a collective advocacy and support a sense of agency, enabling change from within communities and organisations.

What We Do

Local Regeneration offers expertise in the development and delivery of social & economic inclusion strategies. We specialise in the engagement and development of regional partnerships, and provide experience in the delivery of strategic plans and projects. The basis of Local Regeneration's approach is to understand that communities and organisations are living organisms, they need life-giving elements to develop, prosper and evolve. We know that a strategy, a vision, and a determination to survive is often not enough. It’s the why, what and how we choose to act, that is critical to what the future will look like. By identifying and activating fundamental resources and re-directing them to the source of the problem, we believe that we can enable inclusive growth and secure a sustainable environment, where people prosper, and communities thrive. At Local Regeneration we believe effective change can happen when people are valued and acknowledged for their unique role, and empowered to contribute. When we work in communities and organisations, it is so important to seek out the local knowledge, identify the expertise and untap the underutilised resources to release the capacity for growth.

Testimonials

It has been a pleasure working with Helen during her time in the unit. Helen has brought a real energy to team and her stakeholder engagement and networks have been a real asset to us all. Helen has been instrumental in shaping the construction Workforce program – RISE, and driving some great processes in the investment and business enquiry space.  Helen also project managed the 2018 Geelong small business festival which produced some of the best results the festival has had in terms of participation and engagement. I know we will all miss her caring, bubbly attitude around the team. I can only wish Helen all the best and future success in her new venture.

- Tim Ellis, Economic Development and Events Economy, Investment and Attraction, City of Greater Geelong

Helen’s experience and community connections means she has been able to introduce Ethical Property to multiple people and organisations in the business and cultural communities in Geelong, in a very short space of time, which has been incredibly valuable. We’ve enjoyed working with Helen and expect to do so again.

- Peter Allen, Chief Development Officer, Ethical Property Australia

Helen is a passionate advocate for eradicating poverty and fighting for inclusion and social justice in this region. I first met Helen in her very significant role at Northern Futures - and can attest to her most notable success in industry engagement and navigating partnership development activities.

- Anne O'Brien, Director of GROW (Geelong Regional Opportunities for Work)

I have known and worked with Helen for a number of years both in her capacity with northern futures and more recently with the city of greater Geelong, Helen's knowledge of Geelong and its challenges is extensive. She particularly understands the balance between the pursuit of economic development and the social responsibilities of growing communities.

- Peter Dorling, Former CEO Of Committee of Geelong and current Business Manager of Avalon Airport

I worked with Helen whilst she was Business & Industry Engagement - Economic Development for the City of Greater Geelong. I found Helen to be professional, responsive, engaged and able to navigate the complexities of the City in providing support to the Runway business. I would certainly look to engage Helen in her private venture, should the need arise.

- Peter Dostis, CEO, Runway

Helen has been at the coal face with some of the most challenged in our society for decades. I've witnessed the impact of her rare qualities, real life insights, academic theory, big-picture and creative thinking, and an ability to engage business, education and government to build stronger communities and deliver long term social change, with and not for, those in need. Helen is a quiet achiever, a great listener and communicator, and a warm and inspiring woman.

- Lisa Kingman, Managing Director, Runway
